The first thing to remember when seeking skincare advice is that everyone is different- we all have varying levels of dryness, our own problem zones as well as changes throughout the month and year- this is totally normal. This means that there is no one product to answer all questions and bring perfect results to the masses. Your skincare routine has to be tailored to you and the only way to do this is by trial and error or by consulting a specialist. With that said, here are some top tools and tips which are suitable for everyone.

  1. Rose Quartz or Jade Roller

It may seem scientifically dubious whether rolling this cool crystal surface across your face each morning will drain the lymphatic system and balance your chakras. However, there is definitely something to be said about the soothing motion and the relaxed feeling of your skin afterwards, which gives you the feeling of not just a face but also a mood lift. This is why it has become one of my firm favourites.

  1. Face brush

Using exfoliating products can be great for getting rid of dead skin but a lot of products can be really drying if used too frequently. This is where cleansing face brushes come in, they are available in material form or there are electric versions such as Luna Play from FOREO. If you use these with your normal cleanser each day then this gently removes dead skin without having to add in an extra step to your routine.

  1. Sun cream

No matter whether you tan or burn, sun cream is an essential for both the winter and summer months. UVB, the visible ray which can lead to burns, doesn’t have to be present for damage to occur as UVA can filter through clouds and contribute to the development of skin cancer, as well as aesthetic issues such as wrinkles. It’s just not worth the risk. It’s also worth noting that make-up products containing SPF often don’t contain enough protection unless you upend the whole bottle of foundation or primer onto your face. So for a long-wear and marine safe option, CAUDALÍE offer both an oil and a cream formula to match your skin type and these come in either a lotion or a spray formula in either factor 30 or factor 50.

  1. Hydration

The secret to clear skin has little to do with drinking Biotin Tea or Collagen Smoothies and more to do with drinking water. This is the best tip for inside out skin cleansing. Dermatologist, Dr Anjali Mahto, says that whilst it is a myth that drinking water will reduce the emergence of fine lines and wrinkles, drinking water will encourage skin to stay moisturised. Also, as you lose more water when you sleep, she recommends you moisturise before bed to prevent dryness.

  1. Be flexible

If you want to maintain good skin elasticity, then it is important to be elastic with your skin routine too. Your skincare cabinet should change as you age, as well as between seasons. In autumn and winter, you tend to focus more on moisturising than the summer. Additional factors to consider are if you move from a countryside environment to a big city, as this can have a drying effect on your skin.

Finally, don’t forget to have fun with your skincare routine. Even if you already know you staple products, new ones with amazing fragrances and rejuvenating effects can be exciting to experiment with every so often, so neither your routine nor your skin get stuck in a rut.
