With Halloween around the corner, what’s the best place to take inspiration from when deciding what to be this year, the catwalk of course duh! Instead of being a basic bat again this year, please put away the kitty ears and feast your eyes on catwalk designer collections from the past, present and the future (well next season really) – from eerie bridal gowns to embracing the gothic realm with leather, lace and lots of hairspray. Yet, the simplest way to reference runway costumes is through the power of make – up, so get your make- up brushes and face gems at the ready and read on for catwalk-inspired beauty looks to help you look scarily beautiful for Halloween 2019.

Jeremy Scott / Resort 2020

Known for his quirky cartoon style with a touch of flair, Jeremy Scott is the man who can turn anything fashionable from a chic McDonald runway collection to a nostalgic Nintendo Super Mario collaboration, he can really do it all. However, Moschino’s Fall 2020 runway collection was out of the ordinary with looks to literally die for. The 89 pieced collection was   inspired by traditional Halloween monsters such as Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy etc – and his love for comical prints. Yet while the clothes were doing the talking, the make-up inspired behind the looks showcased an artistic view of ruby bejewelled gashes, statement eyes with black tears, a classic smoky cat eye and a neon green shadow was present, completed with a bold graphic lip is all we need to finish off the look.

Gucci / A. W  2019

Gucci, with its unusual concept of losing your head was an actual thing in the A/W 2018  collection. Some models presented were actually carrying their own life- like head, tucked under their arm as they casually strolled down the catwalk. This exact same idea was used by Jared Leto earlier this year for the Met Gala, where he featured his Gucci severed, life- like head down the red carpet. If this isn’t giving you the urge to recreate your own life- like head then are you even doing Halloween right?

Gareth Pugh / A.W 2017

It isn’t a Gareth Pugh show without a unique storyline within his collections. For Pugh’s A/W 2017 collection he pulled out all the stops on eerie, strange and sexy. Every model braved the catwalk all had a blacked out, hollow looking eyes topped off with a glossy lid, giving us creepy alien vibes. The glossy lid trend did eventually take off in Spring/ Summer 2017, where having glossy lips and eyelids was trending on Instagram, yet it defiantly wasn’t safe to go out unless you tied your hair back from the wind.

Marc Jacobs / A.W 2016

Now for some serious gothic inspiration, Jacobs approached his Fall 2016 collection with a modern gothic twist of fur, leather, feathers and pussy bows. However, the make-up inspired by the story of the garments sold the whole look, all models sported a 1920’s plastered, marcel wave hairstyle and a few daring bleach brows were spotted on some models. Graphic eyeliner, a smoky eye and dark lips was a theme occurring, a perfect vision for when recreating a gothic Victorian look.

Christian Lacroix / Fall Couture 2005

It’s called vintage glamour darling look it up, the Christian Lacroix Fall 2005 Couture show oozed dark beauty and gave us major vibes for Halloween.  The make- up down the catwalk showcased dark berry lips and a faded, smoky eye look with a dash of crimson under the eye. The ethereal look would be complete with a strong brow and a brightening shadow in the waterline or inner corner.

Alexander McQueen / Fall 2001

An Alexander McQueen show is always a treat to watch with a trick emerging throughout. McQueen’s fairground carousel catwalk stage design was enough to let us know what we were in for. The collection’s beauty inspired by the garments presented created a contrast between the both, models had clown face paints with menacing and expressions and hair in tall cones and frizzy candy floss afros, perfect if you want to upgrade your pennywise costume from last year.
